Win or Die
House Stark of Winterfell
An ancient house with the blood of the First Men flowing in its veins, the Starks have existed at Winterfell for some 8,000 years. Winterfell was said to have had its foundation laid by the legendary Brandon the Builder. For at least a part of those many millenia they were the Kings of Winter and were the last house of the First Men to rule a realm before Aegon and his sisters came on their conquest. Their motto is, “Winter Is Coming.”
The Starks have protected the north for generations with dignity. Now, the former Great House is forever dishonored as it’s survivors live in exile as fugitives of the state. Cregan Stark, former Warden of the North, agreed that Daemon Blackfyre was the rightful heir to the Seven Kingdoms and should be given the crown, especially after the heavy Dornish influence that had taken ahold of the capitol. After months of politicking, trying to find a non-violent solution to the war, Cregan saw no alternative to fighting. The Starks were one of the few Great Houses that joined House Blackfyre, feeling duty bound to what they saw as the true king.
With House Blackfyre’s defeat, Cregan sent his family away with the Valyrian steel sword, Ice, while riding to King’s Landing to pay the price for his crimes. Cregan Stark was executed, taking the whereabouts of his family to his grave. Now Winterfell houses a Targaryen garrison where a steward manages the day to day governing of Stark lands. The northern minor lords who stayed loyal to the crown have been directed to carry on as normal until a new Warden can be named. The north has never been more vulnerable to wildling attacks than it is now. The Targaryen’s are seeing pressure to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible. This is posing a challenge as the northern minor lord’s are incredibly particular on who they are willing to recognize as their liege.
